Marzia Bolpagni, professor of the Master’s in Global BIM Management, receives the Young Engineer of the Year award and the Sir George Macfarlane medal

Marzia Bolpagni, Head of Building Information Modelling (BIM) International at Mace and professor of the Zigurat’s Master’s in Global BIM Management has been named as a Young Engineer of the Year by the Royal Academy of Engineering. She has been designated the overall competition winner, receiving the Academy’s highly acclaimed Sir George Macfarlane Medal. Image credits: Mace Marzia Bolpagni, a chartered building engineer specialising in digital engineering, has been named the overall winner of the RAEng Engineers Trust Young Engineer of the Year’s competition (out of a total of 5 engineers awarded). This award recognises the potential of UK engineers (either UK citizens or working in the UK) in full-time higher education, research or industrial employment who have demonstrated excellence in the early stage of their career. In addition to the cash award, this recognition goes together with the awarding of the Sir George Macfarlane Medal, a prestigious prize in memory of Sir George Macfarlane (1916-2007), one of the founding members of the Royal Academy of Engineering. “I hope this will be a motivation for more young engineers, especially women, to start or continue a career in digital engineering: we need many talented people to make the difference. I am looking forward to continuing working together to shape the future of our sector”, declared Marzia after receiving the award. Marzia describes herself as a “passionate about Digital Transformation for the Built Environment dedicated in filling the gap between academia and industry to inspire the next generation of professionals”. Currently she is the Head of BIM International and Associate Director of Mace, company in which she supports the international business in delivering digital strategies and solutions for the clients. Marzia is also a UK BIM Alliance ambassador, and a member of the ACE Digital Transformation Group. She is as well a Member of BIM Excellence Initiative as Assistant Editor of the BIM Dictionary and the leading author of a European standard (BS EN 17412-1) on digital engineering. She combines her work with teaching. She is one of the professors of the Zigurat's Master’s in Global BIM Management. From Zigurat we would like to congratulate Marzia for this award.
