One of the newest additions to the faculty board of Master’s in Global BIM Management, Mirbek Bekboliev, spoke about Model View Definition for energy analysis at buildingSMART International Virtual Summit 2020. From 11 to 28 of May, buildingSmart International is hosting a Virtual Webinar Series. The topics covered in this summit include Room presentations, special one-off presentations and updates from the buildingSmart International management office.  Zigurat’s professor and Technical Project Manager at buildingSmart Germany, Mirbek Bekboliev, took part in the Building Room Session dedicated to Geo-referencing, MVD Quantity Take Off and MVD Energy. As an expert in sustainability and energy efficiency with extensive know-how of LEED and Passivhaus, the modules Mirbek teaches within the master’s program are on a similar topic: openBIM for MEP & Energy Simulation.  In his presentation for the Virtual Summit, Mirbek gave an update on the MVD Energy Project, speaking about its scope, current status, IDM features, and what the future holds for them.  Their workgroup has been working on a high-level IDM Manual for Building Energy Modeling (BEM) that will cover everything from present technology and standards to precedent IDMs and MVDs and identify all the stakeholders, roles, and use cases. They are currently drafting the life-cycle process map for designers and users. This work aims to give an overview of the requirements for developing MVD for building energy modeling, simulation, and analysis throughout the project life-cycle.  Now that they are finishing the Phase 1 of the project, the workgroup is waiting for a review of an Expert Panel to have feedback and input at the international consensus level. This panel comprises end users, consultants, software vendors, manufacturers, building performance associations, green building certification institutions, etc.  With those insights, they will be able in Phase 2 to recognize regionalism in requirements and solutions, use the buildingSMART International process in developing solutions and deliver 10 possible MVDs. About buildingSmart buildingSMART is a renowned non-profit organization and a reference in the BIM world, especially when it comes to openBIM and the development of international standards for the AECO industry. Zigurat has collaborated with the buildingSMART Spanish chapter on previous occasions, and David Delgado, the academic director of the Master’s in Global BIM Management, is the vice president of the Design Area of the same chapter.
