Program Confirmed for the Students’ On-Site Visit to the Abu Dhabi International Airport Midfield Terminal

Categories

The program and the dates for the on-site visit of the Abu Dhabi International Airport Midfield Terminal have been confirmed. This visit, organized in collaboration with CCC, takes the participants of our Master’s Program in Global BIM Management for Infrastructure Projects behind the scenes of this landmark BIM project in UAE. From 15th to 20th of September, 2019, the participants will have the chance to apply the material they have learned during the course of the master’s in a practical way. The five-day program consists of site visits to the Midfield Terminal and various BIM Showcase presentations. By relating the BIM methodology directly to the megaproject of Abu Dhabi International Airport Midfield Terminal, this week provides the students with valuable insights into real-life BIM implementation in infrastructure projects. The Midfield Terminal Building of the Abu Dhabi Airport (MTB-ADIA) is a $3 billion, 700,000 square-meter development with a total capacity for 27-40 million people per year. It earned its name ‘Midfield’, thanks to its localization in a field between two existing runways. The terminal - an open and spacious environment - features large column-free zones with inclined steel arches supporting the soaring roof.  Guided by environmental objectives, the Abu Dhabi International Airport Midfield Terminal Building is designed to meet the UAE’s Two Pearl Rating for Sustainable Design. That’s why the terminal limits the use of potable water by incorporating dry climate landscaping and uses low energy lighting supplemented by daylight, filtered through the transparent walls. The themes covered during the International Week in Abu Dhabi include BEP and EDI, document management and collaboration solutions, BIM QA/QC system and workflows, project scope management and QS (Quantity Surveying), change management and variations, and Project Controls and Systems Integration. Friday, 20th of September will be reserved for sightseeing in Dubai. All master’s degrees of Zigurat combine the year-long online program with international weeks that consist of various face-to-face classes, workshops and on-site visits. The participants of our Master’s in Global BIM Management for Infrastructure Projects can also participate in International Weeks in Barcelona and Taipei.
