PART ONE

Almost any building can withstand a certain level of short-term pressure, even if it has not been designed for it. However, for severe explosions, a “custom design” of construction is necessary, in accordance
with the requirements of the applicable standard.

The response of the structure is almost always in plastic regime. The essential thing is the structural capacity to absorb energy, maintaining the load and deforming, that is to say the same philosophy as in anti-seismic design based on ductility.
