THE ROLE OF THE BIM MANAGER
The Global BIM Management Certification Program prepares the participants to lead a new business paradigm in the AECO industry. During this program, the participants learn how to handle the newest digital tools that can be applied to the design, construction and maintenance of buildings. This is achieved through the integrated practice of IPD – Integrated Project Delivery. MODULE 1. BIM SPECIALIST
The purpose of this module is to prepare the participant to become a specialist in BIM and the industry’s major technological tools, and to maintain a cross-sectional view of BIM throughout the lifecycle of a building. At the beginning of the program, the participant must choose at least two study paths to take: Revit (Autodesk), ArchiCAD (Graphisoft), AECOsim (Bentley Systems) and Allplan (Nemetschek).
During the first module, the participant will learn how to develop an advanced building model working collaboratively. This will help the participant understand how to manage BIM servers, workflows and roles, and define competency profiles required by a BIM project. In addition, the participant will learn to deal with advanced simulations of BIM projects, based on the IPD philosophy.
The participant will also learn how to apply leading software to advanced management in different engineering and architectural areas such as VDC (virtual design and construction), cost control, energy analysis, MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) and structural design.
From the very first day, the participant will develop construction projects while working on international collaborative teams. Participants and tutors will work together through a collaborative project management platform on cloud servers managed by BIM Freelance.

MODULE 2. BIM EXPERT
In this new module, participants will enter the territory of the BIM Expert, and will acquire the necessary skills to enter the world of BIM as a pro.
It will focus first on the competence of the Information Manager. The tools available for checking information modeling (control collision), management and quality control of information, and the organization and management of communications and documentation of all participants will form a large part of the project. In addition, the role of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM), planning tools, and enterprise resource management will be discussed from the perspective of the construction industry.
The program content is based on the objects development competencies, with various paths of the program specializing in Revit, ArchiCAD, AECOsim and Allplan. These enable the participant to understand the object library in the project organization and management in collaborative environments. These are taught along with the development of the objects adapted to the peculiarities of the various BIM platforms and the use of web platforms with downloadable objects.
Finally, the module will address competencies in organizations, including the design, implementation and continuous improvement of the organization’s style guidelines, project standards and BIM templates, in addition to the knowledge and management of various BIM protocols.

MODULE 3. BIM MANAGEMENT
Once the participant has acquired skills in BIM implementation within an organization, the participant will have the opportunity to deepen his understanding of BIM management. This will allow the participant to realize the full potential of collaborative work that enables integrated practice through an appropriate strategy and management of BIM projects.
The BIM Manager should be familiar with the collaborative culture, the characteristics of collaborative organizations and the concept of co-design. It is essential to identify the processes and information progress during the lifecycle of construction, to ensure good communication, quality information and optimal planning. The participant will be prepared to handle and select classification standards, created to describe a construction and property, and to allow the exchange of information beyond the variations and nuances of language. In addition, the module will cover the IDM (Information Delivery Manuals), BIM protocols proposed by various countries and classification systems such as Uniclass and OmniClass.
The lifecycle of the integrated project runs through design, bidding, construction and operation, and in each of these steps the organization must handle an increasing level of complexity. The participant will learn the integrated procedures for addressing these phases, both IPD and LEAN, with a goal to optimize processes, improve competitiveness and increase the value delivered to the customer, while internalizing the culture of quality, process control, systematization of analysis models and continuous improvement.
Finally, the participant, with the strategic vision of a BIM Manager, will develop a BIM Project Execution Plan (BPEP). In it, the objectives for the use of BIM will be identified in the lifecycle of construction, the execution of project processes will be mapped, specified communication procedures will be made, and exchanges of information between the various BIM agents (responsible for content and level of detail) and infrastructure (technology, contracts, quality control, etc.) will be defined to support the BIM project.

MODULE 4. BIM IMPLEMENTATION
In this module, the participant will delve into the knowledge and skills of a BIM Mananger, as chief technology officer and change agent. This is where participants learn the implementation at its best, with organizations that have BIM processes and skills at their core.
It is therefore important to have a clear vision of the AECO industry in the digital age, knowing the central role of information in BIM technology throughout the lifecycle of a building or infrastructure. Additionally, the participant will learn how BIM technology can provide tools and fundamentals for sustainable urban development and sustainable strategic methodologies all over the world. This module will also provide context and perspective on the state of BIM – namely the top-down national strategies of major countries – and will raise awareness of the complementary role that BIM Managers play in a bottom-up strategy.
The BIM Manager will familiarize him/herself with the various levels of BIM expertise, ranging from information uncontrolled CAD (BIM Level 0), through interoperability and collaboration models to reach BIM Level 3, integrated practice, or integrated BIM (IBIM).

The BIM Manager must understand the urgency of dealing with climate change, overcome the unsustainability of the current growth model and minimize energy dependence and other global challenges. New, demanding international sustainability policies are radically transforming the building sector.
The consumption of energy and resources in this sector make it essential to achieve a sustainable position. Buildings that consume nearly zero energy and the analysis and restoration of energy are two of the realities of the new construction market in which the BIM Manager must thrive.
Working closely with specialists in these areas, participants will learn the principles of bioclimatic and sustainable design through active and passive systems. The participant will be trained in design methodologies, the evaluation and certification of sustainability in buildings (such as LEED, a point system to score green building design and construction; BREEAM, the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for masterplanning projects, infrastructure and buildings; and PASSIVHAUS, a sustainable standard that can be used on many types of buildings.
Eco-efficiency needs to be based on data obtained by robust monitoring and analysis. These data, through various simulation programs, provide information for design optimization in terms of energy use, lighting, wind flows, air movements, and the like. Data on the environmental impact of products and construction processes, together with lifecycle assessment, allow the BIM Manager to calculate the environmental impact on the building. After the phases of design and construction are completed, the building or infrastructure reaches the phases of operations and maintenance. This new phase occupies most of the real estate asset’s lifecycle. To establish an optimal collaboration with the Facility Manager, the BIM Manager should understand this field: What is facility management? How do major institutions approach it? How does legislation provide a common framework for facility management performance?
The BIM Manager can prepare and transfer the information model to the Facility Manager, enabling the two of them to create an integrated team. To do this, it will be essential to know the main functions and services provided by facility management, understand recruitment strategies within the management model, determine metrics (KPIs), and control models and evaluation.

Bill East is the owner of Prairie Sky Consulting, a company that supports owners and contractors in the management of information during the project life cycle. Bill is the founder and director of the COBie Academy at the University of Florida. During his time with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), he shepherded it in to the National Building Information Model (NBIMS-US) standard, and is still heavily involved in COBie, including the latest update. Bill has been the Government Civil Engineer of the Year and has worked as program manager at the Engineer Research and Development Center identifying, defining and solving problems resulting in reductions in cost and time, and improvements to the quality of public facility acquisitions and operations. Bill has also been adjunct lecturer at University of Illinois teaching the Critical Path Method (CPM). INTERNATIONAL GRANT FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES
Zigurat and BIM Freelance have a social responsibility to provide equal business opportunities worldwide. Aware of the difficulties in accessing world-class education programs, we offer grants to individuals and companies from developing countries.
This program has a goal of international diversification. Due to this, four grants will be distributed by country in each edition of the Global BIM Management Certification Program (which can vary according to special cases).
The International Grant for participants from Developing Countries is designed for global applicants who currently work or lead a team in an international environment. Aspiring professionals who have worked full-time for at least one year are encouraged to apply.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND LEADERSHIP GRANT
Zigurat and BIM Freelance have a social responsibility in the construction sector. Therefore we provide resources to individuals or companies that demonstrate an interest in entrepreneurship, i.e. new business projects related to specialized professional fields .
Business projects will be evaluated by an international committee, and needs will be determined based on the achievement of the objectives of a proposed business project.
When applying for these grants, you should include all the documentation required, and dedicate plenty of time writing your application.
